MINNETONKA, Minn. - Rugby Athletic has announced a partnership with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in which it will serve as the official apparel and merchandise provider for the next three years.
“We are committed to the growth of women’s rugby,” Rugby Athletic’s Chris Babiash said. “And there is no better way to show our support than partnering with the WPL. We are excited for this opportunity to not only provide them with the best apparel and merchandise, but also increase their exposure.”
Founded in 2009, this player-led league is the longest-running premier-level rugby competition in the U.S. Currently comprised of 10 teams, the league just increased from eight with the recent additions of Beantown and Chicago North Shore. They join the league alongside the Atlanta Harlequins, Berkeley All Blues, D.C. Furies, Glendale Raptors, New York Rugby, Oregon Sports Union, San Diego Surfers and Twin City Amazons.
"The WPL is very happy to be partnering with Rugby Athletic to launch a new logo as well as a new line of WPL clothing to our players and fans," Commissioner Milla Sanes said. "As the WPL continues to grow, this is a great step for us to further raise awareness for our League. In fact, we now can look forward to having a Women's Premier League online store soon."
The WPL’s season starts this fall with all 10 teams vying for a shot at the Championship. Play starts Labor Day weekend and culminates at the WPL Finals event at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 10-12, 2017.
